Mobile Suit Gundam

 

The one that started it all for Gundam. In 1979 Mobile Suit Gundam was released onto the television screens across Japan. Despite the moderate success it was cut from its original planned 50 episodes to 43 but that was still enough to create and start a fanbase that would help spur countless sequels and spin-offs that continue to go onto this very day.

This series takes place in a future time where after years of pollution and over-population humans have gone to the stars and built massive space colonies to settle and expand. It is after this that a group of these colonies chooses independence from the Earth rule and from the Zeon. As expected a war breaks out between the two sides that envelope the all points on Earth and space.

The year is UC (Universal Century) 0079 and on a distant colony a young boy, Amuro Rei, gets himself caught up into this conflict when the Zeon sends a group of Mobile suits into his colony to destroy the Earth Federation's prototype weapon. In order to save himself and his colony Amuro is forced to take control of the weapon, a mobile suit called a "Gundam", and fight against the forces of Zeon. We then follow Amuro as he joins the crew of the prototype star ship "The white Base" in their efforts to deliver the Gundam to Earth as they are chased by Char Aznable and the forces of Zeon.
