Episode 9 - Like Rain on the street

Review by Paul McCartney Junior

Like many other episodes in the series, this one picks up where the last ended. Gundam Leopard and Gundam Airmaster are trapped inside the blaze when the Frost Brothers show up in Virsago and Ashtaron. The Gundams fight on with neither team having an advantage when a Miss Ennil El in her Wise Wallaby Daughtress goes after the Freeden. With the Fire Wallaby Daughtress' spewing flame at the Freeden’s base, Garrod Ran looks on the scene, deciding what to do. The Wise Wallaby Daughtress lands in front of the Freeden’s bridge and prepares to fire. A beam pierces the rifle, causing it to explode. It appears Garrod chose to defend the Freeden as he bolts toward the bridge. He fires at Ennil twice; neither shot connects. Garrod targets two Fire Wallaby Daughtress’ and one-shot-wonders both.

Sarah orders the Freeden to move toward the nearby lake. The Freeden moves out while Leopard hitches a ride from Airmaster onto the Freeden. Virsago and Ashtaron try to pursue but are attacked by some Fire Wallaby Daughtress’. As the Freeden is heading toward the lake, Jamil wakes from his coma. Tifa goes to the bridge and tells Sarah to stop the ship. Sarah glares at Tifa and asks her why. Tifa says she just feels it and Sarah says that isn’t good enough. Just as Tonya says Tifa has a special power, the infirmary is shown on the bridge’s monitor. The doctor informs everyone that Captain Jamil is awake. He apologizes for worrying them and asks to be told everything that has happened. Virsago and Ashtaron do battle with the Daughtress’ as Ennil heads for the Freeden.

Sarah asks Jamil why she should listen to Tifa. Jamil tells her that he would turn the ship around even if Tifa didn’t say it. Further in the lake, there appears to be a man standing on water. He soon rises and reveals he was standing on Ennil’s ship. He welcomes them to what he calls “The Burning Lake.” The turrets on his ship fire and miss. The rounds cause oil to splash to the surface and on the Freeden. Ennil’s ship continues to fire on the Freeden as Garrod wonders what to do. By now, the Frost Brothers finished off their foes. Garrod moves in to attack the opposing ship but is stopped in mid flight by the Wise Wallaby’s beam saber. Virsago and Ashtaron attack the Leopard and Airmaster. After being kicked to the ground by the Wise Wallaby, GX’s shield is soon melting at from its beam saber.

Ennil holds the saber from finishing the GX as she speaks to Garrod. She tells him to be honest with himself. She says she knows he regrets pointing a gun at her and offers him a home on her ship. Garrod sends his reply with a kick to the Wise Wallaby before drawing his own saber and moving in. Tifa appears to be sensing Ennil’s emotions and tries to tell Garrod. He begins slashing wildly at Ennil. A missed slice sends him barreling toward the Freeden’s bridge. Garrod pulls away to avoid immolating the crew and says the Freeden is his only home. He scores a blow on the Wise Wallaby and it retreats. Jamil flashes a spotlight to get Garrod’s attention. Jamil orders the Freeden to a full retreat on his mark. Wits and Roy also get the signal as they head back.

The GX hovers above the water silently. Ennil’s ship advances in hopes of cornering the Freeden. Tonya is afraid of the ship’s engines exploding. Sarah looks at Tifa and Tifa nods. Sarah tells everyone they will be fine. As Airmaster and Leopard retreat to the Freeden, the Frost Brothers decide to “restart” the competition. As they takeoff, Garrod counts down the time until the Satellite Cannon can fire. Jamil fires a flare and activates the Satellite System. Garrod flees momentarily and then fires. Ennil’s ship is tossed like a doll across the lake. The Wise Wallaby is lucky to have only been thrown. Almost on cue, it begins to rain. The doctor helps Jamil back inside and gives him some new bandages. Soon, the Freeden crew is gathered at the infirmary. The doctor tells Roy and Wits that he’d like to hire them until Jamil recovers. Jamil tells Garrod that so long as he is on this ship, he can’t just do as he pleases. Jamil gives him the “punishment” of taking care of Tifa. The other crew members are heckling him, calling him “a lucky son of a bitch” when Tifa enters, holding her canvas. She holds up a beautiful picture of a mountain and says that is where they must go. Jamil asks if there is a newtype there. Tifa nods. Outside the Freeden, from a distance, the Frost Brothers watch the Freeden move out. Olba says the Freeden will be the Frost’s rivals and Shagia vows to make them realize that. Ennil limps away from the Wise Wallaby and collapses with a vengeful look. On the bridge of the Freeden, Tonya notes that Sarah has changed her lipstick. Shortly after, Garrod joins Tifa on the deck as she shows him her lipstick and says it’s a secret. The Freeden leaves us while it’s heading for the mountain, in search of another newtype.

Paul Jr’s Thoughts:
Garrod certainly pulled through today. Without him, the Freeden would’ve certainly been destroyed. It’s nice to see him accepted by the other crew members again. I wonder how he’ll handle his ‘punishment’ too. Now about a fourth of the way through the series, it’s looking up to being a great series.
