Welcome to Gundam Plus II, the successor to the original Gundam Plus site.
Episode 7 - Evolving Gundam
This week we get a quick recap of the last few moments in the previous episode before hitting the opening credits. We’re then taking straight o seeing Flit and the Gundam taken into custody by Don Boyage. During the exchange where Flit again says he acted because there was UE unit Boyage all but dismisses it also noting that he doesn’t know where Flit came from. Grodek then enters and notes that Flit is under his command which leaves Flit confused as to why Grodek is there.
Back with Emily and she and Vargas has returned to Iwark’s home and we learn that Flit was arrested because of the ongoing dispute between Zalam and Euba and how he’s disrupted everything. Once again, Emily is annoyed and decides that they have to free Flit. Vargas disagrees saying that if they go out in the carrier it will cause problems but Emily has decided she’s going anyway. In the end Iwark offers the use of his truck for them and off the pair goes.
Over to Flit again as Boyage has offered him and Grodek a real steak dinner but Flit refuses. Flit doesn’t understand why they arrested him and took the Gundam much less why the Zalam and Euba people’s on the colony are still fighting even though the war is long over. Boyage then asks if Flit would give up his Gundam as it will help end things with the Euba once and for all but of course Flit refuses. Boyage then asks Grodek if can be made part of the deal they have but Grodek refuses saying the deal is already set. It’s at this point that Boyage reveals that Flit and Grodek are fighting for similar reasons as Flit learns about Grodek losing his wife and child to a UE attack.
Now it’s off to Vargas and Emily and they drive off to save Flit and discovered that Iwark’s adopted daughter has opted to tag along. Then other street children show up and join with them to go and give the Zalam’s a piece of their mind, much to Vasgas’ and Emily’s annoyance. That was quite useless.
Back to Flit as he’s still going over in his head that Grodek is trying to cut a deal with Boyage along with the fact that Grodek lost his family as well. Flit then asks Grodek why he’s doing all this as the captain of the Diva tells him he’s found a UE base and wants to destroy it. Flit asks the obvious about getting the Federation to help but Grodek notes that the Federation isn’t strong enough to fight the UE or else they would have already. At that point Grodek asks Flit to help him in his quest to rid the world of the UE but before he could answer Emily starts yelling through a megaphone that they should release Flit. As the other children also start sharing their grievances some mobile suits from Euba appear and start attacking the Boyage’s mansion.
As Boyage makes his way out with his forces to Grodek knocks out the guard and tells Flit to follw him and get to the Gundam to escape. As the battle goes on Flit manages to cover the truck as Grodek gets in and takes everyone, children and useless characters alike to the Diva while Flit covers them. As the group escapes Flit tries to stop the fighting but is interrupted by the arrival of Ue mobile suits. The one from last week breaks off from the group to go after the truck and after some talking and reassurance, Flit goes to protect the truck while the Zalam and Euba forces strive to hold off the remaining pair of Ue mobile suits.
Flit races off and catches up to the newer UE suit but just as we saw last week, it’s too powerful and the Gundam doesn’t stand too well against it as Flit takes some damage to its arm. As the truck gets to the space port we see Largan (forgot about him) and his Genoace appear to go and cover Flit since it seems the AGE builder has a new weapon based on the data of fighting this Ue suit. When did Flit transmit that? Does the AGE have wifi?
Anyway, as Largan tries to keep the Ue unit occupied, Flit returns to the Diva with the damaged Gundam and Vargas tells Flit the new parts are ready. Back to Largan as he’s getting his clocked cleans by the Ue suit but just as it appears his end is near Flit returns in the Gundam only this time it’s been upgraded, or as he says ‘evolved’, and now looks like the Gundam Maxter from G-Gundam and that’s the episode.
Nimrod’s Thoughts – Wow, I try to be positive but this episode was pretty bad. I mean, it takes effort to screw up the introduction of a new Gundam/Gundam part but someone they managed to pull it off. I think right now the problem is that the episodes are too short on story so it’s forced to fill out for the 22 minutes of the episode. Again I understand this is for kids but you can add in some more story elements and not make it super simple. Most kids are not that dumb.
