Episode 35 – The Cursed Treasure

Review by Nimrod

This time we start with a quick recap of last week’s episode leading to the revelation that the leader of the space pirate is the thought dead Asemu as we go to the opening credits.

We’re back and we pick right up where we left off last week with Flit and Kio talking about Asemu. The only thing is while Kio is trying to understand Flit doesn’t want to talk about it at all and doesn’t consider Asemu a part of their family since he’s now a pirate. You know, I get the feeling that Asemu is probably on some super secret mission that Flit didn’t know about. Anyway they deck crew calls Flit over to see the object, which they think is a message pod, which was attached to the Gundam. After Flit tells them to be careful with it we also learn the AGE builder is building the new parts for the Gundam along with the fact Kio won’t drop the subject about Asemu. Flit has enough and shouts out Asemu is dead despite Kio’s protests in front of the whole crew in the hanger bay.

We then go to the bridge and then hanger bay as everyone reacts to the news that Asemu is the Pirate leader. Rody is quietly happy that Asemu is actually alive, being pals from the last gen. In the communication room, Kio is trying to decide if he should call home and tell his mother the news about Asemu but Unoa comes in and talks him out of it. We then see Abis talk to Flit about how he reacted to Kio and the news with Flit admitting Emily will probably be happy to hear but that Abis should stay out of it.

Over to the Vagan’s as we see that Zeheart has a new function added to his mobile suit: a mobile bit system. Wow, they’re really charring him up. Anyway, we also learn that both Zeheart and Zanald are being tasked with attacking the Diva and drawing out the Gundam to capture. After they go over the mission Zeherat them informs Fram and Leil that they have another mission.

Back on the Diva we see Kio have a bit of a conversation with Obright as we learn he’s become the lonely old man who waits for everyone to come back. We also learn that the Gundam’s new parts, called the G-Viper, will make it faster and basically meant for space combat. It’s also then we learn the message pod is safe and on the bridge the crew finds that it’s a message form Asemu who begins to tell them about the “cursed Treasure”.

We then go back and forth between the Diva Crew and Zeheart’s crew as we learn what this treasure is: the database of the entire old mobile suit and other technology that was thought to be destroyed at the end of the first war. In fact, part of it was found by the Vagan’s founder and is what they base their technology from.  Both crews note that if whatever side gets it will tip the balance in the Earth-Vagan war. We also learn that Zeheart’s team has been assigned to find the database as it’s hidden on an unknown asteroid.
It’s at this point the original Vagan plan begins as the Diva is attacked from both sides by Zanald’s and Zeheart’s forces. We also get to see Zenald’s personal mobile suit which looks like a giant monster compared to the other units. Another thing we get to spot is the mobile bits that Zeheart is using which look like energy balls and not the traditional bit/funnels one would expect.

The battle goes on with both Zeheart and Zanald focusing on the Gundam as Flit realizes they’re trying to capture it and the episode comes to a cliffhanger with what appears to be Zanald getting the killing blow on Kio and the Gundam.

Nimrod’s Thoughts – Well, outside of learning about this mysterious database there wasn’t really much to this episode. Nothing bad about it but nothing good as well. At least they gave us an idea where the Vagan’s got their tech instead of just leaving it out there for people to speculate upon.
