In case some of you are curious as to his recent absence last Sunday Mark064's (real name Mark Rinkinen) family suffers a great tragedy when their home was burned to the ground.

Quote
At least 10 people are homeless after a fire gutted two homes and damaged a third in the same block on Vancouver's east side.

Fire crews were sifting through piles of charred debris soaked in water late Sunday morning, trying to determine the cause of a fire that started at 3715 Inverness St. at about 4 a.m. and quickly spread to two nearby homes.

The houses at 3715 and 3711 were destroyed and the house at 3707 was severely damaged.

Residents and neighbours stood behind police tape, some still in their pyjamas, waiting to see if firefighters could salvage any of their belongings.

Mark Rinkinen lived in a rental suite with his mother Danika in the house where the fire started.

He was about to go to bed around 4 a.m., he said, when he smelled smoke. He stuck his head outside the window and could see the glow of orange flames at the back of the house.

"I grabbed my cellphone and woke my mom up," said Rinkinen, 25.

He called 911 when he got outside and watched as high winds helped the fire jump to the house next door within a few minutes.

From what has been gathered (he's popped up on irc briefly to chat from a friend's computer) both he and his family were only able to get out with the clothes on their backs and have lost everything. Clothes, computers, his models, books, family mementos, just everything.

In chatting with Lalahsghost (a member of here but more widely known over on MAHQ) last night he's proposed a way for all of us to try and help Mark at least get back on his feet by donating money to Mark's Paypal account. This is especially true for us of Gundam Plus given all the help he's passed along to the site over the years.

Even if you can only give a dollar that's a dollar more to help him and his family try and rebuild their lives.

Mark's paypal email address is : mark064@hotmail.com

I hate to hear this.Mark I hope everything works out for you and your family. If I am able to help out I will, I just don't have any method to do so at this time. When I get my first paycheck from the flower shop I intend to open a bank account and paypal and such. You can be sure I'll send something, not sure what, but that is a promise.

Their Help Page is probably the best way to answer your questions about it.

The basics is that you send money via your credit card or bank account to the paypal account of the person in question.

First of all I found my cat today which makes me very happy. Cheesy She's alright just scared.

Now that is done with, it's taken a while to find the time to reply. First of all I'd like to thank everyone for their support and donations it's really nice and far greater then anything I could have ever expected. It's really touching to see this all happen, my mom and I give you all our eternal gratitude.

For those wondering what is going on since then up to now. Initially the goverment gave us $200 to spend at Zellers to buy on clothes and essentials such as shampoo and what not. And put us up in a hotel for 3 nights. After that my friend's have graciously lent me their futon to sleep on while my mom has been at my aunt's house. The inusrance people might put us up in a place for 6 months, pending approval. Other then that we're also looking for a place in the event that doesn't go through. And finally we are also waiting to go back in the house once it's safe to salvage what we can but that won't happen until the insurance people have made it safe.

Good to hear that you were able to find your cat Mark.  Grin

As I said, I know I myself wasn't able to give much but I do hope that it (along with what others have given you) can help you guys at least get back on your feet and try to get your lives back in order.

Yikes, this is terrible.

You can rebuild the house and your models and all, but you cannot rebuild your loved ones as well as your cat.

I am a bit ashamed that I do not have a credit card, so all I could do is sympathy.

Still, God protected your family in this time.

I may disagree with Gundam discussions, but not on this one!

Cheer up and rebuild your lives!
